Initiated in November 2017, the installation of Zodiac's RAVE IFE on three Boeing 777-300s has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Paris, Amstelveen, 02 April 2019 – On 9 January this year, AFI KLM E&M was awarded Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) certification authorizing AerCap's three 777s to resume operations. AFI KLM E&M had reconfigured and retrofitted the cabins with Zodiac Aerospace's RAVE IFE system – a world first on Boeing 777-300ERs.
AerCap ordered the cabin retrofit for the three aircraft in October 2017 prior to their transfer to another airline. The retrofit was designed to maximize the aircraft's seating capacity using proven AFI KLM E&M expertise on the 777 product. AFI KLM E&M has already carried out over 100 modification programs on this aircraft type, both for its parent airlines as part of the BEST program, and for third-party customers. Today it holds the record for the configuration with the largest number of seats aboard a 777, at 531 instead of the usual 410-430.
AFI KLM E&M personnel adapted to the technical constraints involved in the retrofit, as it was necessary to adapt the RAVE system to the architecture of a 777-300 and develop technical solutions to guarantee IFE operation aboard.
AerCap selected AFI KLM E&M for obvious reasons of expertise: the MRO is recognized on the market as the most experienced firm for the 777. Added to that is its unrivalled experience on the recent RAVE system as AFI KLM E&M is the DOA that has designed and carried out the most projects using this type of IFE system.
Joe Venuto, Chief Technical Officer at AerCap said, "It was a pleasure to work with the AFI KLM E&M team on this project. The team's unrivaled experience working with the Boeing 777 coupled with their tailored suite of solutions provided AerCap with the level of support we expect and require."
Fabrice Defrance, Senior Vice President Commercial AFI KLM E&M, explained: "Our status as an MRO working with AIR FRANCE and KLM, which themselves operate the 777, means we can put ourselves in the shoes of the future operating airline and intimately understand their needs and provide design and engineering solutions with the same attention to detail as if it were an aircraft from our own fleet. Throughout the program, it was a pleasure to work with the people from AerCap: it was this easy-going, trusting relationship that allowed us to successfully overcome together the many technical challenges raised by this unique operation."
