During Fan Cowls GE90 inspections, water penetration inside the cowling was observed on aircraft, causing significant degradation of the structure. From 335 GE90-115 fan-cowl inspections, 32 operators reported 289 fluid ingression findings. 108 of these were found to be beyond economical repair. If 108 could not be saved, 227 can still be saved. WAKE-UP CALL BEFORE NIGHTMARE
In 2020, Boeing launched a service bulletin after finding water ingress inside GE90 fan cowls. In accordance with our mantra «repair rather than replace whenever possible», we developed our own repair process approved by our part 21J Design Office, to avoid excessive cost. We perform a thermographic inspection to evaluate how to treat the trouble: permanent protection, composite repair with permanent protection or panel replacement.
