INNOVATION

Interview with Rob Stolk, Project Manager Group Engine Product, on PROGNOS® for Engine

data?.accessibility_lbl

Rob, can you tell us what makes PROGNOS® for Engine a game-changer in aviation maintenance?

Rob Stolk: ": Absolutely. In aviation, reliability and efficiency are key, and engines are at the core of operations. PROGNOS® for Engine takes health monitoring and predictive maintenance to the next level by using advanced digital twin technology. This allows us to create highly accurate models tailored to each engine’s specific operational environment, enabling more precise monitoring and early issue detection."

How does PROGNOS® for Engine differ from traditional OEM monitoring solutions?

Rob Stolk: "The main difference is that PROGNOS® offers an independent view of engine health, complementing OEM tools rather than just replicating them. While OEM solutions provide performance data, Prognos® enhances this by leveraging both the physical engine performance calculations and a data-driven approach. This unique combination sets us apart in the market, as our competitors do not have the same setup with the OEMs for performance data. This dual approach enables earlier detection of potential issues and provides airlines with a more comprehensive understanding of engine health, allowing them to transition from reactive to proactive maintenance strategies."

What impact has PROGNOS® had on fleet operations so far?

Rob Stolk: "PROGNOS® has already proven its value across multiple engine types, including the CFM56 and GEnx. Every year, it drives hundreds of maintenance actions, helping airlines optimize engine performance, extend the operational lifespan of their assets, and reduce unexpected disruptions. By continuously evolving with real-world data, PROGNOS® ensures operators stay ahead of potential failures."

How do you see PROGNOS® evolving in the future?

Rob Stolk: "The key to PROGNOS®’ success is its adaptability. As we integrate more data and operational experience, our models and alerts become even more precise. We’re also exploring ways to enhance predictive capabilities further, including PROGNOS® for LEAP engines, powering the next generation of narrow-body commercial jets. With its new technology and material, it offers significant improvements in fuel efficiency, noise reduction, and environmental performance. It's the engine used in aircraft such as the Airbus A320neo, Boeing 737 MAX, and Comac C919. Our goal is always to keep fleets flying safely and cost-effectively and ensuring airlines can maximize efficiency and minimize downtime."

Any final thoughts for airline operators considering PROGNOS®?

Rob Stolk: "PROGNOS® for Engine is not just a tool—it’s a transformational approach to engine maintenance. With its independent analytics, early detection capabilities, and continuous improvements, it’s redefining how airlines manage their most critical assets. If reliability, cost savings, and operational efficiency are priorities, Prognos® is the solution."
